How to Estimate my Value

Have you ever asked the question, "Why does God bother with me?" After all human beings can be a bit messy! How valuable are human beings to God? Well, value is determined by the price that someone is willing to pay for what they want. The parable of the good shepherd in the Bible reveals the warm, loving heart that God has for us as well as the extent to which He would go to ensure our eternal wellbeing and salvation.

The good shepherd parable reveals a God who searches for mankind! The sheep is lost and powerless to find its way back to the safety of the sheepfold. But the good shepherd risks everything to go out into the dark night to find his precious lost sheep. The good shepherd that goes searching is a parable that illustrates Jesus seeking you and me in order to bring us back to Himself. The lost sheep parable reveals the value of humanity to God.

There are many parables of Jesus in the Bible. But the story of the good shepherd in the Bible captures the heart of God for you like no other. The goodness of God leads you to repentance. As we turn back to our loving and compassionate God, we are freed from guilt and shame. As we come to see ourselves through the eyes of the Good Shepherd we discover our true value. The parable of the good shepherd reveals our need to depend entirely upon the goodness, grace and sufficiency of God for our restoration. Indeed, the story of the lost sheep reminds us that the true gospel is not a self help gospel!
